OAHU HOME EXEMPTION
The home exemption is a one-time claim that reduces the annual property tax bill for qualified homeowners on Oahu.
The last day to file for a home exemption in the City and County of Honolulu is September 30 annually. Applications must be filed with the Real Property Assessment Division (RPAD) on or before this date to receive the exemption for the following tax year. This provides a reduction in the taxable value of an owner-occupied home.
The home exemption amount is subtracted from the home's assessed value before the tax rate is computed.

If you miss the September 30 deadline, you may not receive the tax benefit until the following tax year. Existing homeowners with a valid exemption already on file do not need to reapply annually unless their status changes.
